Vincenzo Sposato is a partner at Kearney’s New York office, leading the firm’s M&A team in the Americas. However, his career started off on an unconventional path for a management consultant: development law.

He began his career at an intergovernmental organization in Italy, focused on rule of law and access to justice. He spent a few years at the global headquarters before moving to Afghanistan to lead the finance and operations teams there. “We focused on resolving the foundational legal issues in developing countries to ultimately unlock economic and social development,” Vincenzo recalls. Today, he continues to guide people to long-term stability and growth through high-stakes business decisions with empathy, active listening, and respect for their operational expertise.

M&A can do more than create opportunities to grow or access new markets, he points out; great deals can transform a business by solving for supply chain crises, ESG imperatives, geopolitical instability, and more. However, realizing that potential value requires an intentional blend of strategic vision and practical execution, which is where Vincenzo really shines. “It’s not good enough to stay at the theoretical strategic level. You have to be able to translate that strategy into something you can actually operationalize.”

And you have to be willing to get personal because even in the best deals, “everyone is a little nervous,” Vincenzo notes. “Acknowledging that, and being intentional with people at the center, is not only good for the people; it’s better for the business. It’s going to help protect and drive value.”

Vincenzo’s centering on the human side of business extends to his commitment to diversity and inclusion within the firm and in the community, including pro bono projects focused on challenges facing the LGBTQ+ community and a leadership role in the firm’s LGBTQ+ affinity group, PROUD. “Kearney sees value in what’s different instead of trying to fit things into an existing box,” he says. “Different backgrounds and perspectives ultimately bring more value to our clients.”
