If you think of any role in banking, the chances are Sameer Pethe has probably done it at some point. From retail to corporate and investment banking, and frontline to strategic functions, he laughs, “I’ve done it all.”

This experience and skill set is what makes the difference in Sameer’s consulting work, serving banks, fintechs, and investors around the world. “Having been on both sides of the table puts me in a pretty unique position,” he explains. “I understand what goes on inside financial institutions, how things work, and how to translate that into strategy. And as a consultant, I talk to lots of different industry participants, so I can act as a sounding board or thought partner about what is happening at a broader level.”

Before joining Kearney, Sameer held leadership roles at CIBC in London and Royal Bank of Scotland. He has also worked at Boston Consulting Group and Monitor Deloitte.

Notable engagements include a significant reset and transformation to change the strategic direction at a global bank—delivered almost entirely virtually. Other projects include post-merger integration, cost transformation, market entry, growth and commercial due diligence programs, and large-scale transformations.

Sameer describes his approach as action-oriented, pragmatic, and data-driven. “When I recommend a course of action or decision it is always based on thorough analysis and how quickly it will flow through into the metrics. Success for me is all about the impact we create for our clients. Getting to an outcome, celebrating it, and also seeing younger colleagues develop as a result of the work we’ve done, is a real joy.”

Sameer studied aerospace engineering and has an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta. When he’s not working or spending time with his family, he likes getting his hands dirty. “I enjoy being in the garden,” he says. “I find it really calming. Whenever I need a break, I step outside and do a spot of gardening.”
