How long have you been with the firm and how did you end up with Kearney? What made you choose the Boston office?

I joined Kearney in August 2016 after a great summer with the firm. What drew me to Kearney during the recruiting and interview process were the people and the firm’s outlook. I had a standard question for each interviewer: “What’s Friday like in your office?” The answer from a Kearney partner was: “There’s a good crowd that comes to the office, the beer fridge opens at 3 p.m., and we catch up with friends and colleagues.” Not the answer I expected, but something I could fully support (and reflects reality).

My path to the Boston office started in San Francisco. When I summered, the Boston office hadn’t reopened and I selected San Francisco because my girlfriend was living in Los Angeles and I really enjoyed the West Coast. Before starting full-time, she took a position in Boston and I quickly contacted our HR team to move to Boston.

What do you enjoy about the Boston office?

Because of its size, the Boston office is a close community and a place where you can immediately make an impact on the office culture. At the moment, I’m chair of the social committee and chief beer buyer, a member of the recruiting committee (we actively engage with local universities), and a member of the onboarding committee, which aims at giving new consultants the best start possible. The office celebrates each other’s success, is a sounding board for client work, and makes sure we have time to get lunch at the food trucks on Fridays.

What do you think makes your office different from other Kearney offices you’ve seen?

Surprisingly, I’ve found that most Kearney offices have a similar feel and generally reflect their city. New York is busy and the most formal, Chicago is fairly relaxed, and San Francisco could have people wearing shorts. I think Boston’s uniqueness is in its size, close community, and the potential to enrich office culture.

What’s the one thing you would like candidates to know as they identify offices?

In true consulting fashion, I will share three things. First, your office choice is not set in stone. Life happens and Kearney wants you to be successful. Second, you don’t need an office with the most partners to be successful. Small offices provide great visibility and the ability to excel outside client work. Third, pick an office where you can be engaged and physically present. Consulting is about people, and connecting with your colleagues is important.

Favorite office event or office-related memory?

It hasn’t happened yet, but our summer outing is a rooftop lobster barbecue, and I’m very much looking forward to that.
